The Oil Factor - Behind the War on Terror

A 93 minute documentary
Narrated by Edward Asner
© 2004

"Powerfully persuasive..." - The Los Angeles Times

In the wake of Vice-President Dick Cheney's 2001 Energy Task Force, is it a coincidence if George Bush targeted Iraq in its so called "war-on-terror", a country known to possess the second largest oil reserves in the world? Is it another coincidence if U.S. forces in Afghanistan and Central Asia are based near Central Asian oil and natural gas? Was invading Iraq and Afghanistan really meant to reduce terrorist threats against the United States or was it a ploy to guarantee that the average American can go on for a little while consuming 4 times more energy that the average European or 32 times more energy than the average African?

After a year-and-a-half investigation and a three-month trip to Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan, "THE OIL FACTOR" looks at both the human cost and the greater geo-strategic picture of George Bush's "war-on-terror". With solid facts & figures, maps and graphics and original footage shot on location, the doc features such personalities as Zbigniew Brzezinski, Noam Chomsky, The Project for the New American Century Director Gary Schmitt, best-seller "Taliban" author Ahmed Rashid and the Pentagon's Karen Kwiatkowski.

Hidden Wars of Desert Storm

A 60 min.-doc on the 1991 Gulf War and the embargo over Iraq
Narrated by John Hurt
© 2000

"An uncommonly sober, well-researched film." - The New York Times

- What is the history of U.S. involvement in Iraq?
- Was Saddam Hussein‚s 1990 invasion of Kuwait a surprise?
- Was war the only solution to the 1990 Gulf crisis?
- Was Iraq really threatening Saudi Arabia?
- Why didn‚t Washington support the Iraqi opposition then?
- Could the embargo on Iraq have served alternate purposes?
- What is true behind the mysterious "Gulf War Syndrome"?

A two-year investigation, "Hidden Wars of Desert Storm" brings answers to all of these questions and offers an enlightening background on the past and present U.S. involvement in Iraq. Presenting documents never seen before on television, the doc features such prominent personalities as Desert Storm Commander General Norman Schwarzkopf, former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark, former UN Iraq Program Director Denis Halliday, former UNSCOM team-leader Scott Ritter and many others. A large selection of archival footage, moving images shot in Iraq during the embargo, an original sound-track scored by acclaimed composer Fritz Heede and the narration by two-time British Academy Award-winner, actor John Hurt, all contribute to making "Hidden Wars" a documentary both fast-paced informative and accessible to a general audience.

China vs USA - empires at war - full 52min

Synopsis
America's intelligence community is quietly preparing for a new conflict, one which hasn't made headlines yet. Ahead of Al Qaida, more important than the quagmire in Iraq, the Chinese Threat is America's new war. If Taiwan is today the most explosive strategic issue between China and the USA, there are already skirmishes (some public and some secret) such as the NATO bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade or the Chinese cyber attack on the German defense ministry. Using testimonies from western and chinese specialists, this film is the thrilling account of a new form of conflict taking shape: an unrestricted war with countless battlefields, ranging from space to the Internet and from finance to the control of natural ressources.

Govt of India Documentry on Jesus in Kashmir 1
The Rozabal Shrine of Srinagar Movie Part 1 The lost years of Jesus concerns the undocumented timespan between Jesus's childhood and the beginning of his ministry as recorded in the New Testament. The gospels have accounts of events surrounding Jesus' birth, and the subsequent flight into Egypt to escape the wrath of Herod (Matthew 2:13-23). There is a general reference to the settlement of Joseph and Mary, along with the young Jesus, at Nazareth (Matthew 2:23; Lk. 2:39-40). There also is that isolated account of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus' visit to the city of Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover, when Jesus was twelve years old (Luke 2:41-50). Following that episode, there is a blank space in the record that covers eighteen years in the life of Christ (from age 12 to 30). Other than the generic allusion that Jesus advanced in wisdom, stature, and in favor with God and man

The Life Of The Buddha [Full BBC Documentary- HQ]

Lastet opp av sidddhartha89 10. juli 2011

This documentary covers the life of Siddhartha Gautama, a young prince from India who went out to find the reason for "Dukkha" [problems] of human life. He later found the reason of Dukkha and teached a way to live life. He was later known as the Buddha, the founder of "Buddhism".

The religion with no god.
"If there is any religion that would cope with modern scientific needs it would be Buddhism." -Albert Einstein

BBC had a nice documentary covering Buddha's life important events. Watch the full documentary before commenting. BBC has not made anything wrong. They had specified that Buddha was born in Lumbini which is Nepal. Don't argue the documentary made to understand the philosophy and teachings of Buddha, no matter where he was born. Buddhism is way far ahead than what people are arguing here.

Do not believe in something because you are told to.
Do not believe in something because a holy person said it.
Do not believe in something because you read it from a book.
Follow and practice the teaching without prejudice.
If it brings happiness to you and others and does not
encourage self harm or harm to others then follow it.
Although this was taught by buddha, I believe it is a
beautiful principle that can be applied to everything
we learn in life. May you all be happy.

Life of Buddha documentary is available with English, Greek and Catalan Subtitles.

Copyrights of the video belongs to BBC. Uploaded only to share the knowledge.

Be Happy! Peace!

God Save the King of Thailand

Australian ABC TV had aired a documentary film critical of the Thai royal family, titled "Thailand - Long Live the King" on Tuesday 13th April. The documentary was excellent because it had exposed the bad/negative side of Thai monarchy that has been hidden from the Thai population for more than 60 years. It is very critical of the Thai king and portrayed the crown prince, Prince Vajiralongkorn, as a playboy who love women and doesn't care much about the state affairs. The documentary had shown a footage of Prince Vajiralongkorn's third wife, the future queen, appeared topless during a birthday celebration of the Prince's dog. The Thai embassy in Australia threatened legal actions against the ABC TV and so the station had put up the following notice:

"Apologies to our regular on-line viewers but legal issues prevent us from making our recent program ‘Long Live The King’ and material associated with it available on our website. For Australian viewers however the program is available in full on iView. Transcripts are available on request."

Now, the documentary has been made available on Youtube. Please enjoy watching it below:

1421: The Year China Discovered America?

On March 8, 1421, the largest fleet the world had ever seen sailed from its base in China. The ships, huge junks nearly five hundred feet long and built from the finest teak, were under the command of Emperor Zhu Di's loyal eunuch admirals. Their mission was 'to proceed all the way to the end of the earth to collect tribute from the barbarians beyond the seas' and unite the whole world in Confucian harmony. Their journey would last more than two years and circle the globe. When they returned in October 1423, the emperor had fallen, leaving China in political and economic chaos. The great ships, now considered frivolous, were left to rot at their moorings and the records of their journeys were destroyed. Lost in China's long, self-imposed isolation that followed was the knowledge that Chinese ships had reached America seventy years before Columbus and circumnavigated the globe a century before Magellan. Also concealed were how the Chinese colonized America before the Europeans and transplanted to America, Australia, New Zealand and South America the principal economic crops that have fed and clothed the world.

PBS: 1421 – The Year China Discovered America
December 7th, 2007

Can it be true that the Chinese discovered America decades before Columbus? Well I know lots of people who would like to believe so :)

The documentary examines the theory based on the evidence collected by the man behind it: Gavin Menzies, a former British submarine commander.

The way the documentary is structured is intriguing, first it takes us back to one of the greatest eras in the history of the Chinese empire, the reign of emperor Zhu Di, where the empire extended way beyond its known reach; Starting with this to establish the fact of how mighty and dominant the Chinese were in the suggested era, and quickly showcasing the marvels of that time.

Then studying possibilities of other nations making it to America – invalidating all other ofcourse, keeping in mind that Columbus did have maps when he set sail, so someone must have drawn these maps, and considering the first two facts leaves us with only the Chinese as a possible provider of the maps.

Then again, at the suggested time, a legendary admiral by the name of Zheng He (the guy has a whole section in Ibn Battuta Mall if you live in Dubai) commanded one of the best fleets in history: The Ming and had the famous ships of treasures from around the globe, and his existence strongly connects to the theory, because it was his fleet who made it all the way to the shores of new continent.

The documentary proceeds with following the trail of Zheng He, and the traces left at each city he visited all the way until he made it back to China, by examining these cities and their historical records and culture, and sometimes even their DNA to prove connection.

I will not spoil the end, which is anyway very controversial; The documentary studies Menzies theory and the evidence he collected, which means it is a research that can either prove the theory or trash it; yet, it leaves us somehow with an open end regardless of the findings and the result, keeping the question open to the answer you decide to pick.

I am personally convinced with the findings, but you may not :) So give it a watch, and definitely you will learn lots of things.

PBS production, hence kick ass, year: 2004.

1421: The Year China Discovered the World
Gavin Menzies
Published by Bantam Press, London

In his first book, 1421, Gavin Menzies argues that a huge Chinese fleet circumnavigated and charted the world years before the first great European voyages of discovery. The evidence for this comes in many different forms: from shipwrecks and ancient maps, to local peoples accounts and their DNA.

Forget the axis of evil, its the axis of oil

The Cold War and the War on Terror were about ideology and globalization. The 21st century will be dominated by the struggle for energy: It will be every man for himself and it's going to get dirty.

In the two-part documentary Energy War, VPRO's Backlight investigates the major developments with regards to energy sources. Featuring NY Times columnist Thomas Friedman.

The film describes the geopolitical consequences of the dependency on fossil fuels. In the struggle for the last sources of fossil fuels, countries all over the world are forced to take new political and moral decisions and have to enter into awkward alliances: rogue regimes must be tolerated and befriended. With a special focus on the gas conflict between Georgia and Russia and the position of Saudi Arabia.
Featuring a.o. Thomas Friedman, author of international bestseller The World is Flat. Friedman sheds his light on the inverse connection between rising oil prices and the establishment of free democracies.
The film then moves on to take a look at the international markets for alternative energy. If oil and gas are scarce and expensive in the future, where will countries turn to keep their economy going and their population warm and happy? Could solar energy or bio fuels become the main energy sources of the post-fossil fuel era? Will governments, multinationals or small producers be the motor of the green race?

Bangkok

An Asian supercapital, a labyrinth, and a traffic jam rolled into one, Bangkok is a mash of the contemporary and the traditional, the sacred and the profane. Traveller Toby Amies goes bush-whacking in the ultimate man-made jungle.

He meets:

Nym – a fellow photographer who bears the scars of a day at the world's weirdest tattoo festival and discovers something unheard of in the klongs of the Chao Praya River

Pariyakorn – a Thai boxing promoter who unleashes her best female fighters on Toby and teaches him how to chill out with a good .45.

Jumbo – a Buddhist bon viveur who shows Toby just what can happen when you combine a rocket scientist and a tuk-tuk.

Marko – an emergency paramedic who takes Toby bodysnatching on the mean streets of Bangkok and places him at the mercy of man-eaters in a temple with a twist.

‘Whore’s Glory’

NOT JUST SEX FOR MONEY
The topics in WHORES' GLORY are certainly loaded because everyone believes they know something about prostitution, particularly when he or she has never been to a brothel, or they know about it from the media or simply from second hand information. I tried to go in with only one expectation: "This is certainly not going to be what I think it is." I have always felt that prostitution isn't only about paying somebody for sex. That would be too simple, because when negotiations are over and the deal is done, it would only be about two naked people doing the most intimate of acts. I wanted to try and explore more: what does it do to the hearts, minds and souls on both sides?

MEN AND WOMEN
When I start a film, I always need a premise that can be contradicted or confirmed by reality. For WHORES' GLORY, I chose the theory that the female/male relationship of any given culture can be depicted in prostitution as in everyday life, only dealings move much faster. For example, in Mexico City there is a back alley where prostitutes parade all day long. Men lean against the walls, standing there watching this parade of the dolled up working girls. But the rule of the game is that the men are not allowed to openly choose. They can try to make eye contact, or wink at a girl, maybe sometimes give her a little sign. But it is the woman who has to stop and start to talk with the man. Then when they come to an agreement, the man can take her to a nearby hotel room. This ritual is the perfect mirror of how men and women relate to each other in a strict Catholic society. In WHORES' GLORY, you can see similar rituals and situations. The glass separation between the men and women in Thailand; the men in Bangladesh arriving in groups and choosing the girls together; the Mexican men cruising in cars for the women of their choice.
